OpenAI launches a $35,000 WebMCP Challenge as ChatGPT desktop and Sites gain native WebMCP
OpenAI Developers opened a 10-day WebMCP Challenge with ChromiumDev, CloudflareDev, ShopifyDevs, Vercel, Render, and Netlify. Prizes include $35,000 in cash, Codex Micros, ChatGPT Pro subscriptions, and partner awards. WebMCP is an experimental open standard that lets websites expose page-level tools an agent can call. OpenAI is adding WebMCP support in the ChatGPT desktop app's built-in browser and on ChatGPT Sites, so ChatGPT or Codex can automatically use a compatible site to finish a task. Builders can start from scratch or add WebMCP to an existing site; submissions are due September 3 at 5pm PT, with 10 winners announced September 23.
