Pruna Open-Sources P-H3-Image: MiniMax-H3 Video Model Turned Into an Image Generation and Editing Model, 8 Steps, 5x Faster, 7x Smaller

On November 3, model-compression company Pruna AI open-sourced P-H3-Image, which turns MiniMax-H3, the open-weights video model MiniMax released this summer, into a text-to-image and image-editing model. Per Pruna: sampling drops from 50 to 8 steps, a 4 MP image on one B200 goes from 12.4 s to 2.6 s, the 4-bit set is a 20 GB download (vs 143 GB for H3), and peak VRAM at 8 MP is about 21 GB. It renders 2 to 16 MP and edits with multiple reference images. Weights are on Hugging Face with native ComfyUI support. It keeps the MiniMax H3 Community License, which by default excludes the EU, UK, South Korea and the US.

Pruna Open-Sources P-H3-Image: MiniMax-H3 Video Model Turned Into an Image Generation and Editing Model, 8 Steps, 5x Faster, 7x Smaller

Key Takeaways

  • Speed (Pruna figures): 8 steps instead of 50; on one B200 a 4 MP image goes from 12.4 s to 2.6 s and 8 MP from 30.6 s to 5.8 s; the 4-bit set does 4 MP in about 6.3 s on an L40S
  • Size: the transformer shrinks from 33B to 20B parameters and the text encoder is distilled from 32B to 4B (67 GB to 9 GB); downloads are 55 GB in bf16 and 20 GB in 4-bit vs 143 GB for H3
  • Memory: peak VRAM at 8 MP is about 56 GB in bf16 and 21 GB in 4-bit; the bf16 diffusers pipeline with the prompt upsampler needs about 100 GB
  • Capabilities: renders 2 to 16 MP, strongest at photorealistic and documentary photography, film stills, anime and graphics with short text; supports multi-reference editing (8 images per the X post, 9 per the blog)
  • License: MiniMax H3 Community License; the EU, UK, South Korea and US need a separate license from MiniMax, and products must show "Powered by MiniMax H3"

Black Forest Labs releases FLUX 3 Image Klein: 5.6B open-weights image generation and editing model with native 4K, bounding boxes, 8GB-VRAM INT8 build

On 2026-10-15 Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein, a 5.6B open-weights image model for text-to-image, editing and multi-reference generation with up to 10 references, inheriting FLUX 3's native 4K output, pixel-perfect edits and bounding-box control. It ships as a fine-tunable base and a step-distilled model, plus FP8/INT8/NVFP4 builds made with NVIDIA; the INT8 build runs on RTX GPUs with 8GB VRAM. Weights use the FLUX Kommunity License (free commercial use under $5M annual revenue), and it is live on the BFL API.

Black Forest Labs releases FLUX 3 Image Klein: 5.6B open-weights image generation and editing model with native 4K, bounding boxes, 8GB-VRAM INT8 build

Key Takeaways

  • Footprint: 5.6B generator; 11.2GB in BF16, 5.6GB in FP8; the INT8 build runs on RTX GPUs with 8GB VRAM via ComfyUI or Diffusers (blog)
  • Speed (measured by NVIDIA): distilled + INT8 makes a 1MP image in ~4s on an RTX 5090 and under 9s on an RTX 4070; under 0.6s in NVFP4 on GB300, with LoRA adding ~5%
  • Quality (BFL internal evals): +91 Elo text-to-image and +70 Elo editing vs FLUX.2 [klein] 9B with 38% fewer parameters; BFL ranks it above Qwen-Image 2.1 (7B) and Krea 2 (12.9B)
  • API: the distilled model is flux-3-image-klein on the BFL API with prompt upsampling and pixel restoration; listed from $0.009 "per 1K image" (API docs)
  • Ecosystem: day-one ComfyUI, Diffusers, TensorRT-LLM, SGLang Diffusion and vLLM-Omni; LoRA training via Ostris AI Toolkit and NVIDIA NeMo AutoModel

UltraText Bench Open-Sourced: Comprehensive Bilingual Benchmark for Dense Visual Text Rendering in Image Generation

Rendering dense, legible, and spatially accurate text within generated images is critical for commercial graphic design, advertising posters, and e-commerce visuals. However, existing benchmarks predominantly test isolated words or simplistic English phrases, failing to capture the complexity of rendering multi-region, bilingual text layouts. LINs-lab introduces UltraText Bench (arXiv:2610.09823, code: github.com/LINs-lab/UltraText_Bench), a comprehensive bilingual benchmark designed to stress-test prompt-only dense visual text rendering. The suite contains 432 human-reviewed prompts distributed equally between English and Chinese across 24 real-world categories and three difficulty tiers (L1 to L3), with each prompt prescribing exact text for 4 to 12 distinct visual regions. Utilizing the Q-Judger multimodal evaluation model, UltraText Bench assesses 24 state-of-the-art model configurations across text fidelity, text clarity, spatial layout, and scene aesthetics. Empirical results expose key architectural trade-offs: Turbo distilled variants gain 3.81 clarity points but sacrifice 14.76 fidelity points, while flagship models like Qwen-Image exhibit steep performance degradation under L3 dense workloads (dropping from 86.50 to 42.86), with code and evaluation suites fully open-sourced.

UltraText Bench Open-Sourced: Comprehensive Bilingual Benchmark for Dense Visual Text Rendering in Image Generation

Key Takeaways

  • UltraText Bench open-sourced, establishing a rigorous 432-prompt bilingual benchmark for dense visual text generation
  • Deploys Q-Judger to score 24 model configurations across text fidelity, clarity, spatial layout, and scene aesthetics
  • Exposes key trade-offs: Turbo distilled variants drop 14.76 fidelity points, while dense L3 workloads halve model scores
