Microsoft opens the GitHub-built Copilot harness in Foundry Agent Service: public preview, 20+ frontier models plus BYOK, billing from Dec 1
During GitHub Universe on Oct 28, Microsoft put the Microsoft Copilot harness, the shared agent execution layer behind Copilot Code, Copilot Studio, the GitHub Copilot app, the CLI and VS Code, into Foundry Agent Service as a public preview. Microsoft runs the agent loop and sandbox while developers supply instructions, skills, tools and model choice; Microsoft says it works across 20+ frontier models plus bring-your-own-key. Long-running resilience for hosted agents also reached GA. Harness runtime usage is free until Dec 1.

X discussion: Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman posts "Don't build conscious superintelligence", saying AI development should stop if consciousness emerges in training
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman published an X article on November 1 titled "Don't build conscious superintelligence", responding to reactions to his September essay on model welfare. He clarified that his line "AIs are not conscious" was deliberately in the present tense: they are not today, and that is how they must remain. If consciousness started to emerge in training, he would call for everyone to stop AI development until those properties could be designed out. He argued that AI developers have no right to bring a new conscious species into the world and that welfare concerns should focus on humans, animals and the natural environment. He also credited Anthropic for publishing its constitution and research, while saying he disagrees with its approach. The post drew about 353 likes, 251 bookmarks and 290K views, with ethicists and practitioners on both sides. This is a personal opinion piece, not a Microsoft product or policy announcement.

Microsoft: frontier models power Copilot Autopilots; Project Opal runs multi-hour jobs on Windows 365
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says new frontier models are being brought into Copilot so it can move from Q&A and delegated tasks to completing long-running Autopilot jobs over hours or days. Example: an Opal-powered Autopilot on a secure Windows 365 Cloud PC processes a month of trail-cam footage, finding animals, building highlight reels, labeling camera/date/species, cataloging in a spreadsheet, drafting a PowerPoint, and sharing in Teams.
